The harder I work, the luckier I get. - Samuel Goldwyn
Inspirational quote of the day by Samuel Goldwyn.
If you work consistently towards your goal, you will improve your skills, increase your knowledge and expand your social network. In other words, you will create a strong foundation, and the person with the stronger foundation has a more opportunities and a better chance of success than a person with a weak foundation.
Put in a simpler way, consistent effort and diligence increases the likelihood of favourable outcomes and opportunities.
Samuel Goldwyn, a pioneer in the American film industry, started his career in the entertainment industry as a glove salesman. He improved his marketing skills, and became vice president of sales.
He then moved to New York City, decided to move into the film industry and formed a partnership with his brother in law and friend to create The Jesse L. Lasky Feature Play Company in 1913.
In 1916, Goldwyn partnered with Edgar Selwyn to form Goldwyn Pictures Corporation where he played a significant role in film production and distribution.
In 1924, there was a merger of Metro Pictures, Goldwyn Pictures, and Louis B. Mayer Pictures led to the creation of MGM, one of the major Hollywood studios.
This illustrates that the more you work, the bigger you become, and the bigger you are, the more opportunities arise (which some people call luck).
