Jeff Bezos (1964-) is an American entrepreneur and founder of Amazon.com. Bezos is one of the wealthiest individuals in the world and is known for his innovative mindset and relentless pursuit of growth.
Before starting Amazon, he had a successful career as vice president of a hedge fund called D.E. Shaw & Co. During this time, Bezos developed the idea of starting an Internet bookstore. He was unsure however if he should make the move and leave his established, stable career and start this new risky venture, at a time where the Internet was not well known, and which there was no guarantee of success.
He thought about it for a while and developed a framework to help him make the decision which he calls the "Regret Minimisation Framework." Paraphrasing Bezos: "If you imagine yourself at age 80 and look back on your life, you want to minimise the number of regrets you will have. I knew that when I was 80, I was not going to regret having tried this. I knew that if I failed, I wouldn't regret that. But I knew the one thing I might regret is not ever having tried. I knew that that would haunt me every day. So when I thought about it that way, it was an incredibly easy decision."
